iNS is a significant upgrade to the existing iNavigator series. iNS is the new, current production model and is now available. Polara recommends ordering it in place of iN2 and iN3 iNavigator models. In addition to using the same proven firmware and app, iNS is backwards compatible with existing iN2 and iN3 installations. iNS sets a new standard for Accessible Pedestrian Signals with more features such as Bluetooth® 5 providing more speed, range and app capabilities.

iNS 2-Wire Mode Information   2-WIRE RESOURCES

A 2-wire system is designed for use on intersections with existing button wires and provides the maximum features and performance possible. A Control Unit installs in the intersection Traffic Cabinet and coordinates the performance of each PBS over the existing two button wires. Some of iNS' 2-wire mode features include:

  • Central Control Unit in Cabinet powers Push button Stations & communicates (sends/receives data) over the 2 new or existing button wires using 24V DC PLC.
  • Digital communication & synchronization to up 16 Buttons, 4 Phases, or up to 8 phases as a BIU

iNS can also operate as a 3-wire PBS (Ped-Head Based System). It comes with a 3-position terminal block to connect to a Ped-Head Control Unit. See iNS3 Quick Start Guide for more information/instructions.


iNS 3-Wire Mode Information   3-WIRE RESOURCES

A 3-wire system is designed for intersections where button wires do not exist, though can also be installed on intersections with button wires. A Control Unit installs in each Pedestrian Signal and connects to a PBS via 3 wires. Each system is independent of the others and each PBS responds to the messaging provided by the Pedestrian Signal Head it is connected to. The sounds are not synchronized (unless new Wireless Sync feature is activated), and some of the features on a 2-Wire system are not available. iNS in 3-wire mode specific features include:

  • Stand alone/Independent System (nothing in cabinet)
  • Ped Head Control Unit & Cable provides Walk/DW & Power (24V DC) to Push Button Station
  • No ped button wires needed (great for pre-timed/non-actuated systems
  • Terminals are provided to allow actuation (2 button wires to call place calls)
  • 3 wire System = Power, Ground, & Data (= reduced wiring in conduits)
  • Wireless button-to-button communication provides sound synchronization & remote ped call activation
  • Pilot Light Recall feature – turns on pilot light and keeps it on during Clearance & Don’t Walk Cycles

Note: There is a 3-wire only push button station available (iNS3). iNS3 will not operate as a 2-wire unit.

  • iCCU-S2 Shelf Mount Control Unit - Supports BIU

    This iCCU-S2 central control unit is a universal control unit that can be used in any style traffic cabinet and replaces the iCCU-S. It is backwards compatible with the iCCU-S with just cable changes. It is designed to sit on a shelf, and interfaces to the Traffic Cabinet either through the separate cable interfaces. With the latest version of firmware in the iCCU-S and the latest version of the iOS or PC application, this controller now supports full bidirectional BIU capability allowing the control unit to get interval timing information and place calls to the traffic controller directly through the SDLC interface! This control unit is the power supply and signaling interface between the existing intersection Traffic Control Unit and the iNS2 iNavigator Push Button Stations installed on the intersection. It has separate cables to connect, thus you can buy only what you need. It can programmed/accessed via WiFi or Ethernet. The part number for ordering is iCCU-S2.

  • CABLE-C-LG: iCCU-S2 Cable for Logic Ground

    This is used when the iCCU-S2 is used as a full BIU device on the SDLC Bus.  That is, the iCCU-S2 is both placing calls and receiving PED Interval information via SDLC.  This cable has a discrete single white wire that must be connected to the cabinet's logic/signal ground (LOGIC GND.  One of these cables ships with every iCCU-S2.  Part number for ordering is CABLE-C-LG

  • Set Up Box for iNS Product - Works with iNavigator Series

    This Set Up Box is for powering an iNS3, or an iNS2 (as a 3 Wire), and also earlier iN Series (iN3 & iN2 as a 3 Wire) push button stations in 3 Wire Mode so they can be set up or programmed in the shop or at ones desk without being connected to a traffic cabinet or PED head.   • External Speaker for ES Option

    This is an external horn style speaker that typically installs on a PED Head for the purpose of providing greater directed volume on large intersections, or beaconing on intersections. Part number for ordering is 2WEXTSPKR. This external speaker is connected to a iNS Push Button Station (PBS) with the -ES option (see below). The iNavigator PBS must be ordered with the -ES option in order for this external speaker to work in conjunction with the PBS.

Control Units

  • iPHCU3S Ped Head Control Unit for 3-Wire System

    This is the Control Unit that mounts in the Pedestrian Signal Head (Ped Head), takes power from the 120 VAC power to the walk/don't walk light signals, and operates the Push Button Station via 3 wires that connect the Control Unit to the Push Button Station. One Control Unit is required for each Push Button Station.
