What is an Accessible Pedestrian Signal (APS)?
An Accessible Pedestrian Signal (APS) is a device that communicates information about the WALK and DON’T WALK phases at signalized intersections in non-visual formats (i.e. audible messages and vibrotactile indications) to pedestrians with vision and hearing loss.

How to use PedApp®

Step One:
Open the app on your phone. You will be shown a list of any APS in your immediate area.

Step Two:
Select a crossing. The volume of that button’s locator tone will increase to help guide you toward it.

The app will automatically activate the push button as you approach it. You will hear a message like ‘wait to cross’ on your phone.

Step four:
When the walk sign comes on, your phone will vibrate and announce, “Walk sign is on.” The cycle finishes with either an audible countdown or locator tone, followed by, “The Don’t Walk sign is on.”
